Different staff, we love Stephanie from last year and glad when we were able to see her again. This was our second visit after a hurricane ran us off the island last time. The only downfall was you could not run your generators at night. Ocracoke Campground was less than 1/3 full when we visited in early May. There is a generator and non-generator area of the campground which is awesome if you have solar.

However, the camp site doesn't seem to be well run. There are tent sites at the middle of the campground, on the grass, close to the bathroom and showers. NPS lifeguards go on duty May 23rd. As long as there's a breeze, mosquitoes and biting flies are not a problem. Overall, I think this could be a nice campsite if they would improve their organizational skills and fix things that are broken. There is a dump station across the street. The Atlantic Ocean and the Pamlico Sound are both within walking distance. In October 2016, Hurricane Matthew devastated the Ocracoke Island community, knocking out one of its prominent businesses, Beachcomber Campground. You are really close to the beach. Closeness to the beach awesome, bring good shoes for the climb over the dune and something other than flip flops on hot days as the sand gets really hot.
